Senior Controller
At Elliott Tool Technologies, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the highest quality specialty tools for an “I need it yesterday” world. Our customers depend on us to keep their production moving. When they cannot operate, they lose money. This is where we provide solutions. Our innovative team continues to produce specialty tools to ensure growth and profitability for the customers we serve.
To exceed our customer’s demands, we need a Senior Controller, who is…
• … self-driven and disciplined to achieve results, solve problems, and enact change,
• … compassionate to build great teams, coach team-members, and care about customers,
• … coachable to learn from mistakes, receive candid feedback, and grow as a leader,
• … honest to do and say the right thing and be willing to engage in difficult conversations.
WHY? We need someone, who will maintain the excellent financial management of the retiring predecessor while leading significant improvement in project management, focused processes, a transition plan for anticipated retirements, and last but not least – join our Executive Team to help propel our strategic growth.
A top-performer will achieve these outcomes:
- Leads a team overseeing accounting, AR, AP, HR functions (reports directly to Executive Leadership). The team is experienced and stable however one-third of the team could conceivably retire in the next 6 months to 3 years. Recruiting, onboarding, and retaining a talented team to perform at an even higher level would be an outstanding accomplishment!
- Manages overall tax and regulatory compliance for the company. The objective is zero surprises to the investors. There is a highly automated reporting tool integrated to ERP. On the downside there is perhaps too much information for investors to review. Success would be to provide an executive summary and analysis of financial performance.
- Prepares financial reports on a timely basis in accordance with GAAP.
- Understands, analyzes, and collaborates with other managers regarding costs, and provides actionable recommendations to improve the cost-benefit to our enterprise. The team regularly has focused design for manufacturability cross-functional teams. The Senior Controller can help these teams to better understand our true costs.
- Monitors and controls inventory, receivables, and fixed assets. Our return on assets is top quintile in our industry but our inventory management is not. A Senior Controller that could lead a step-change to our inventory management would lead us to world-class ROA and would solidify his/her reputation as a Rockstar!
- Leads the company’s risk mitigation efforts including but not limited to business insurance, cyber security, HR compliance, and disaster recovery.
- Manages the company’s cash flow, treasury, and financial forecasting. The retiring incumbent takes with him 30+ years of experience and leaves behind two models that are phenomenal for creating the financial business plan and maintaining very accurate forecasts. But these models are fairly user specific. An incoming Senior Controller has to fully onboard and utilize these models, or revise and simplify them. Success is the continuity of our past 10 years – never tapping in to our line of credit due to a surprise!
- Manages external financial vendor relationships (e.g. – banks, CPA firms, insurance brokers.)
- Advises the Senior Leadership Team related to financial impact of strategic initiatives. An actionable strategic plan was one of Elliott Tool’s critical success factors over the past few years. In 2023 we will begin another Strategic Plan and the Senior Controller needs to be a valuable part of that team through a combination of competency and strategic thinking.
