Manufacturing Technician – Dayton, Ohio

Elliott Tool Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Technician who enjoys optimizing manufacturing processes and creating precision parts from raw materials that are essential to everything from automobiles to aerospace. If you’re ready to do work that really matters, we’d love to hear from you.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you’ll be:

  • Handling quotes, reviewing ECNs, routing new releases, and checking work order changes
  • Collaborating with Engineering on DFM, managing and designing new fixturing and tooling releases, making routing edits for process improvements, and eliminating bottlenecks
  • Becoming the CNC programming expert with PartMaker software and point of contact for machinists in your department
  • Leading weekly huddles with team members, collaborating with Purchasing, Scheduling/Expedite teams, and completing projects assigned by the Manufacturing Manager and Vice President of Operations
  • Providing input on the CapEx plan and executing best practices to ensure ROI and plan results

What’s a typical day like?

Imagine a customer urgently needing quality specialty tooling and equipment to complete a job. Normally, these parts require a 2-week lead time. However, the customer asks if we can deliver the order within 1 week, which would save them a significant amount of money.

The Scheduling Manager realizes we have the necessary materials in-house but needs to ensure the manufacturing process can meet the new deadline. The Scheduling Manager approaches the Manufacturing Manager to expedite the order. The Manufacturing Manager then comes to you, the Manufacturing Technician, with the request. There are multiple process steps that need to be started immediately, but it’s 9am, and there are already several other priorities for the day. Can you deliver?

Within a few hours, you coordinate with the team to prioritize the urgent order. You review the engineering drawings, make necessary adjustments to the routing, and ensure all required fixtures and tooling are ready. You assist with programming the CNC machines, making sure the setup is optimal for efficiency. As you oversee the process, you collaborate with the operators to handle any issues and ensure everything runs smoothly.

By the end of the day, you have successfully integrated the new requirements into the manufacturing schedule. Over the next three days, you monitor the progress, make any needed adjustments to the process, and ensure quality control checks are in place. The expedited order ships out, arriving two days ahead of schedule.

The customer is thrilled with the quality of the tooling and the service they receive. They start referring their co-workers from other locations to buy from us, leading to new opportunities.
